Often people have the misconception that feelings of anger are bad.
Because we are people, we are emotional creatures and to experience these feelings are just that – to be human...
However, it is a different thing of how we express these feelings. Specifically, anger is a secondary emotion. That is, it never functions on its own. It either hides another primary emotion behind it, or it hides behind a primary emotion, like guilt, frustration, etc. My focus on anger management psychotherapy is two-fold:
1) taking different perceptions of events that may cause a less emotional reaction,
2) learning to express the anger in assertive but not passive-aggressive ways. The results for clients has often improved relationships with others, better self-esteem, and less stress in life.
