22 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE A HISTORY OF IMPULSIVE ANGRY BEHAVIOR

Often people have the misconception that feelings of anger are bad.

Because we are people, we are emotional creatures and to experience these feelings are just that – to be human…

However, it is a different thing of how we express these feelings. Specifically, anger is a secondary emotion. That is, it never functions on its own. It either hides another primary emotion behind it, or it hides behind a primary emotion, like guilt, frustration, etc. My focus on anger management psychotherapy is two-fold:

  1. Taking different perceptions of events that may cause a less emotional reaction,
  2. Learning to express the anger in assertive but not passive-aggressive ways. The results for clients has often improved relationships with others, better self-esteem, and less stress in life.
